How to Use a Chipotle Promo Code
Most codes that look broken are entered in the wrong place. Three screens, seven common errors, one fix each.

Applying a Chipotle promo code
The order matters. Three of the four most common failures happen because the code went in before the bag was full.

Build the whole order first
Add every item to the bag before opening the promo field. Chipotle codes carry minimum subtotals and item restrictions, and an empty bag makes a working code return an error that looks like the code is dead.

Find the promo field on your screen
On the website it sits on the checkout page under the order summary and above the payment section. In the app, tap the bag icon, scroll past the items to the totals block, then tap Add Promo Code. At the counter there is no promo field at all.

Type the code by hand
Pasting carries a trailing space into the field, which is the most common single cause of an invalid message. Type the code in capitals with no spaces, then tap Apply.

Confirm the discount line before paying
A successful code adds a named discount line to the totals block. If the total has not changed, the code did not apply regardless of what the confirmation message said.
One promotional code applies per order in the United States. A redeemed Rewards offer takes the same slot, so pick whichever saves more on the basket in front of you rather than trying to combine them.

Codes are tied to the channel that issued them. A catering code on a standard order fails for the same reason a Chipotle code fails inside DoorDash.

Why a Chipotle code fails, and the fix
Chipotle returns a short message with no diagnosis behind it. These are the seven causes behind almost every failure, in the order they occur.

The three mechanics that kill codes silently
Redemption caps close a code before its published end date. Chipotle issues campaign codes with a fixed number of redemptions, and once that number is reached the code returns an expired message even though every deal site still lists it as live. This is why a code posted three hours ago can already be dead.
Regional issue means marketing runs by market rather than nationally. A code built for a Dallas campaign returns an area error in Boston with no explanation, and no amount of retyping changes that. There is no way to tell a regional code apart from a national one before trying it.
Account binding attaches first order codes to the Rewards account rather than the device or the payment card. A code that worked for someone else fails on an account with order history behind it. Creating a second account to get round this breaks the Rewards terms, and Chipotle can close accounts for it.
What to do when nothing applies
Move to the offers that need no code at all. Free guacamole on the Veggie Bowl, Veggie Burrito, Sofritas Bowl and Sofritas Burrito is worth $2.95 on every order and never expires. Free delivery on direct orders above $10 removes a fee a marketplace charges for the same food. Your Rewards balance may already hold enough for a half price entree.
