What changed in April 2026
The Chipotle birthday reward used to be a surprise item dropped into the account. Since the Rewards on Repeat relaunch on 13 April 2026 it is a choice, and the redemption window runs 30 days rather than expiring on the day itself. Both changes matter more than they sound, because the old version wasted itself on people who were not at a Chipotle on their birthday.
The four options are guacamole, queso blanco, chips and a fountain drink. Two of them are worth $2.95 and two are worth less, so the choice is worth thirty seconds of thought rather than tapping the first one on the list.

Pick queso if your order already has free guacamole on it. Guacamole comes at no charge on the Veggie Bowl, Veggie Burrito, Sofritas Bowl and Sofritas Burrito, so choosing guac on one of those orders spends the reward on something you were getting anyway.

The single most common reason people never receive this reward is that the birth date was added after the birthday month had already started.

The birthday reward is a Rewards feature. Without an account there is nothing to attach a birth date to.
Add your date of birth in account settings
It has to be saved before your birthday month begins. Adding it during the month does not trigger the reward retroactively.

The reward holds for 30 days rather than a single day, so it can be spent on a normal order rather than on your birthday itself.
When the reward does not show up
Four causes cover almost every case. The birth date was added during or after the birthday month, so the trigger never fired. The account has a different email than the one you are checking, which happens when an order was placed as a guest and a second account was created later. Notifications are switched off, so the reward is sitting in the Rewards tab unread. Or the 30 day window has already closed, since it starts at the beginning of the birthday month rather than on the birthday itself on some accounts.
Open the Rewards tab in the app before assuming it is missing. Rewards land there rather than arriving as a code, and there is no promo field involved at any point. The redemption guide explains the difference between account offers and public codes.
Redeeming it well
The reward applies to one qualifying order. Because the window runs 30 days, there is no reason to spend it on a small order. Attach it to an order you were placing anyway, and if you are also holding a promo code or a Rewards Exchange offer, remember that only one promotional slot exists per order in the United States. A birthday reward and a promo code cannot both apply.
Order through the app or the website so the reward attaches automatically. In restaurant it works by scanning the app before payment is taken, in that order, since a receipt cannot be added to the account afterwards.
Where it sits against everything else
The birthday reward is worth $2.95 once a year, which makes it the smallest of the recurring Rewards benefits. Freepotle drops arrive monthly and add up to considerably more across twelve months. Points earning at 10 per dollar produces a free entree worth $9.79 for every $162.50 of qualifying spending.
What makes the birthday reward worth setting up regardless is that it costs one minute and returns every year without any further effort. For someone who eats at Chipotle twice a year it is close to the only benefit the account produces.
